Whale Watching and Agua Blanca Archeological Site
Day 1: Early morning departure from Guayaquil to Salinas to board the whale watching boat. From June to September we sight Humpback whales off the coast. Hundreds of whales come up from the Antarctic to breed in the tropical waters of the Ecuadorian coast.
In the afternoon we travel to Puerto Lopez. Overnight here.
Day 2: In the morning we whale watch and snorkel and in the afternoon we visit the Agua Blanca Archeological Community, which was established as part of the pre-Colombian Manteña culture over 1,200 years ago, and is the only surviving indigenous group in this region. The Manteña people moved along the coast to find the spondylus—a giant oyster-like shellfish, whose shell was used as currency. They were expert navigators, and traveled as far as Mexico on large balsa wood rafts.
At the visitor centre and archaeological museum, visitors will learn about the local culture and history of the people before taking a tour around Agua Blanca. (B)
Overnight in Puerto Lopez
Day 3: Morning whale watching in Ecuador’s beautiful waters with option to snorkel. At 11 am return to Guayaquil with a stop en route to a Cacao Plantation. Ecuador’s cacao is regarded as one of the best in the world. See how this plant is grown, harvested and made into chocolate.
